With a background in Art and Design History, as opposed to art making it is natural for my practise to be influenced by art forms of the past and make reference to them. Indeed within my practise I utilise imagery from past work and experiences and incorporate them with new elements in order to reinvent them. As a result outcomes can often present idealised/ romantic representations of animals, flora and fauna and landscape (often surreal worlds).
The work is pluralist in that it is beautiful but acts as an escape from the grind of daily life. The work is a criticism of the state of our society and draws on Jean Baudillard’s (1988) ideas that imitation has preceded the original, that we reproduce nature as opposed to experience it.
